Lavender's mysterious power has intrigued humankind for over 2500 years. The ancient Greeks used lavender to fight insomnia and insanity while the Romans burned lavender to honor the Gods and steeped the blossoms in public baths, which is where it gets it's name: from the Latin lavare, meaning to wash. Today in France, lavender finds its way into sachets, pillows, potpourri, perfumes, bath products, herbal preparations, food, and even ice cream. The town of Anduze, tucked in the foothills of the Cévennes Mountains, has been a pottery-making center since the 16th century. Our Anduze pottery is a variation of the original and is made by hand using traditional methods. Kiln-fired with antiqued green jasper enameling, each piece is a whimsical echo of yesterday. This small atelier also plays with new forms, adding his special essential oils that diffuse through the clay, creating scented pottery! These French terra cotta creations are a unique and decorative way to subtly scent a room. He also continues the proud tradition of classic French vases. His "Anduze Vase" candles, available now in citronelle scent will keep your outdoor evenings bug-free. The combination of classicism and whimsy make each piece a lovely addition to home or garden.

An essential part of daily life in any French town or village is a trip to the boulangerie or bakery for fresh-baked bread and to the marché or market for fresh fruits and vegetables.
